This research set out to consider employment and recruitment practices in the audio-visual industries in London, and the effects these have on new entrants. In particular, the research questioned why there are relatively few black and minority ethnic workers in the industry given the demography of London’s workforce. We were interested in exploring how students made the transition from college into employment and in investigating if there were particular barriers they faced in establishing a foothold in the sector. In order to do this, we conducted a survey with final years students on media, film and television courses and followed this up with focus groups once students had left college. This report provides some initial findings.
