Themed content

Every two months the UIN will feature ‘themed content’. Typically this will consist of 2-4 articles covering a key theme of potential interest to unions.

Unlike other UIN content ‘themed’ articles will be commissioned by the UIN Working Group. ‘Themed’ articles should ideally be:

  • No more than 1500 words long: If technical/practical factors make keeping to this word limit difficult colleagues are encouraged to provide an external link to a more comprehensive article, or a contact point from where such an article can be obtained.
  • Have a 250 word introduction/summary: This introduction/summary will feature on the front page of the UIN web-site and  should effectively summarise the content of the article
  • Be written in a clear, concise and accessible style: Please bear in mind that the key ‘audience’ of the UIN is not other academics, but union officers, organisers, researchers and activists. Short, sharp articles with external links to more detailed content are more likely to be read than longer, dense articles!

When submitting themed content please make sure it is accompanied by your e-mail address and telephone number, in case a member of the UIN working group needs to contact you. Your article may be edited – but if this is the case, will not be published on the UIN web-site  without your prior approval.

Copyright of any article submitted remains with the author.

General content

One of the most important elements of the UIN web-site is that registered users can up-load text and documents to the site. This is done simply by logging in and clicking on ‘submit content’ in the ‘user menu’ toolbar on the right hand side.

Again, when submitting general content, where possible, please bear in mind the points above regarding format and style.

Please bear in mind that there may be a lag between uploading content and it appearing on the site as all new content is currently moderated.

Again, copyright of any article/content submitted remains with the author.
