How can we best build a vibrant, growing trade union movement, capable of reaching out to, and representing, the next generation of workers? The individualistic attitudes formed by a decade of Thatcherism may have damaged community and union participation. However the movement must react and adapt to these new conditions, and be ready to harness the momentum of any future backlash to this culture of individualism. Unions must revitalise and rethink their methods if they are to grow, remain vibrant, representative and capable of reaching out to the next generation of workers.
