Labour Behind The Label Newsletter
Dear friend,
Please take a few moments to take action on one of more of the urgent appeals and campaigns below.
*ACTION: TELL ASDA TO CLEAN UP FASHION* You may have seen the stories of Bangladeshi workers supplying Asda, Tesco and Primark in the news a few days ago, as researched by LBL and brought to the public’s attention by War on Want. Last week we met with Asda over the allegations. They were typically disappointing. So it’s time they did more. Act online: http://www.labourbehindthelabel.org/content/view/150/54/1/3/
*ACTION: DEMAND EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS FOR HOMEWORKERS LBL members the National Group on Homeworking is campaigning to win employment rights for homeworkers. Currently thousands of homeworkers miss out on key rights such as maternity leave or protection against unfair dismissal or redundancy because their employment status is unclear. We want a change in the law to grant homeworkers full employment rights and recognition as employees just like on-site workers. Act online: http://tinyurl.com/y7yjog
*ACTION: STRIKING PHILIPPINE WORKERS NEED YOUR SUPPORT* Labour Behind the Label is asking supporters to deliver a letter to their nearest Asda Wal-Mart store indicating concern for the workers at the Chong Won Factory in the Philippines, which is producing for Asda's parent company, Wal-Mart.Since October Chong Won workers have been on strike against on going and serious workers rights violations at the factory and have endured violent attacks by police and security guards at the request of factory management, whilst delivery of food supplies have been prevented. Yet Wal-Mart hasn't bothered to publicly denounce these actions nor have they taken adequate steps to improve working conditions at the factory. Throughout December consumers around the world will deliver letters to Wal-Mart stores demanding that Wal-Mart take responsibility and ACTION to protect the rights of the Chong Won workers.
