You have my full support in fighting these proposals. If we give up on critical thinking, historical perspective and widening participation, then we might as well give up on academia. Students gain so much from Industrial Relations: they tell us that it gives them a different perspective on society and work and makes them question things - isn't this the role of education? As well as people's jobs, there are some fundamental values here to defend.

Good luck to those fighting for the department and for their jobs. The university staff and students should be treated with more respect.

Mr
Do these people not understand employment legislation "failure to consult" yet again - from a colleague in UNISON

In solidarity from sister college Ruskin in keeping opportunities and innovation open and up there, and in resistance to the continuing challenge to opportunities for the previously disadvantaged and excluded. We've had enough of this commodification of higher education. Viva colleagues at Keele .

Do these people never learn? They didn't succeed at Sussex and with the full support of your friends, colleagues and students around the country they will not succeed at Keele either.

As a former Keele Certificate and MA Student I am disgusted by this politicaly motivated attack on the IR department. The distance learning courses at Keele are a vital resource for the whole of the trade union movement and as such should be defended by the whole movement.

This is a shocking, unjustifiable decision that must be overturned. It is a sad day for IR - a seminal disicpline by any measure - and all this at a Institution with a leading reputation in the IR field. The decision is nonsensical.

Dr
This is typical of senior management in Higher Education - but the relevant unions have allowed such actions to happen. It could have been stopped if they had opposed it in the early '90's, and will continue until we have the courage to take on such outrageous, cowardly and greedy behaviour. Keele staff could at least launch a vote of no confidence in the VC! But will they? Where is the solidarity?

Mr
Absolutely outrageous!!! Everything must be done to reverse this shameful action and the senior management sacked for the underhand way in which they have sought to close such an important department. This is an attack on us all!
Yours in solidarity.
