Industrial Relations at Keele
What appalling news. As a previous MA student I know the value of this programme. The quality and dedication of staff has maintained this department as a leader in the field of industrial relations research and tuition. It must not close.

The economic future of workers in a global economy depends on a discipline of strong academic resources in industrial relations for solutions. We need better human resource management, not less. Sacking experienced university staff is not the way forward.

Shame on Finch. Keele should immediately reconsider the decision and, more important, the decision-making process.

What a short-sighted act! Organizations succeed based on the quality of their workforce. Teaching IR and HR is important for organizational success.

It is remarkable that administrators can even think they can get away with something like this. What better evidence could there be of the need for strong unions and hence for faculty that research and teach about them?

In the U.S. when robber barons aren't buying off universities, they are decimating labor programs. Don't let them finish you off in the U.K.! My husband and I have met the Liverpool dockers, a shining example of leadership for the world to follow. We've written about how their struggle in the 1990s still bears fruit today, as your work does. Stay strong and don't let the bad guys wipe you out.

no closures. no redundancies
appaling form of management failure and short-sighted way of restructuring an institution with international reputation

Indeed, this move by administration is appalling, and very short-sighted.

To not consult/hear all the partners before making a decision is shameful. Keele has a reputation as being high quality institute. It would be shame if the plan sould go ahead.
