Dr Wendy Richards, former Lecturer in IR, now in Canada
Disgraceful, short-sighted proposals which will destroy one of the few genuinely successful and internationally-renowned programmes Keele Universiry offers. The courses offered by the Keele IR group, in particular the postgraduate programmes, contribute to widening participation in higher education in a way no other course at Keele does. The proportion of women and minorities accessing these programmes is also higher than in other postgraduate programmes, at Keele and elsewhere. For someone supposedly committed to gender equality, and equality for other disadvantaged groups, Janet Finch is not demonstrating that commitment through this insane attack on highly committed, hard-working staff and a department which is regarded as excellent in its field.

The Bakers, Food and Allied Workers fully support the campaign to keep open the IR Dept at Keekl University and to oppose the proposed cutbacks. Education is a trade union issue that needs all our supoport and the aim must be to encourage and expand this area not to restrict in, particularly given its success here.
