Hundreds of people are killed by work every year in incidents the Health and Safety Executive say should have been prevented. Relatives of people killed at work have launched a national campaigning group called Fack – families against corporate killers – to protest, lobby and demand urgent action, including:
* Urgent government action to halt the complacency about deaths at work;
* introduction as a matter of urgency of corporate manslaughter legislation which would see employers who kill by gross negligence sent to jail as the appropriate, proportionate penalty and effective deterrent;
* a review of the way work-related deaths are investigated and the way families are treated; and
* more rights for workers and safety reps at work, to protect themselves against exposure to unacceptable risks to their lives and health.
