Migrant workers have long been an important part of the UK labour market. In recent years, especially with the accession of Eastern European states to the EU and the popularity of the UK with asylum seekers, the issue of migrant workers has become increasingly controversial. This article draws on the findings of a recently published study looking at employers’ use of migrant workers. In-depth interviews were conducted with 124 employers across five sectors (administration, business and management; agriculture and horticulture; construction; finance and accountancy; and hotels and catering). This article in particular focuses on findings relating to lower-skilled jobs in these sectors.
